Science, technology and innovation (STI) ecosystems with high structural violence in post-conflict

Abstract

The fundamental objective of this research was to analyze how the ecosystems of STI and peace reinforce each other for the construction of a lasting peace and the reduction of structural violence. To achieve this, theories related to science, technology, and innovation ecosystems and structural violence were addressed. The research adopted a qualitative and multidisciplinary approach of documentary review with a critical perspective. The study reveals that, in recent years, the Colombian government has promoted various science-for-peace initiatives to help close territorial gaps and improve the overall well-being of Colombia, with the hope that STI could serve as a catalyst for reconciliation and regional development. However, these initiatives still face numerous challenges. It is concluded that STI ecosystems favor the creation of an enabling environment for peace by promoting values such as cooperation, transparency, and social responsibility. As the country moves towards the consolidation of a lasting and stable peace, the integration of science into reconciliation and local development processes will continue to be an essential pillar in building a more just and equitable society.
