Abstract

Gender perspective, as an analytical tool, allows us to identify structural inequalities, power dynamics, and socially constructed roles that influence both conflicts and their resolution. This approach is rooted in a fundamental premise: conflicts do not impact everyone in the same way. It analyzes how men and women—speaking in general terms and avoiding determinism—tend to adopt different negotiation styles. It also examines how stereotypes affect the perception of legitimacy, often labeling women as 'less firm' or 'overly emotional,' while perceiving men as 'more rational.'

By utilizing the concept of structural violence (systemic inequalities affecting specific groups), we can understand that many conflicts are not between 'equals.' Instead, they are shaped by lopsided economic, social, or cultural power relations. Integrating a gender lens into conflict resolution is not just an ethical choice; it is a necessity for reaching agreements that are truly equitable and, above all, sustainable. The lived experiences of men, women, and gender-diverse individuals are shaped by pre-existing inequalities, power structures, and social roles that dictate how they navigate and confront conflict.
