Abstract

The book is structured in eight chapters that integrate contributions from neuroscience, psychology, moral philosophy, contemplative science, and law. Based on a solid theoretical foundation, González Martín distinguishes concepts such as empathy, sympathy, compassion, and self-compassion, and argues that compassion is a cultivable skill with the potential to transform conflicts in a more humane and effective way. The work incorporates specialized programs such as Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), as well as practical tools such as gratitude, patience, acceptance, narratives, and compassionate active listening.

Among its main contributions is the formulation of “compassionate mediation,” an innovative model that redefines mediator training and the understanding of human suffering as a central dimension of conflict. The review concludes that this monograph is an essential reference for researchers, students, and mediation professionals, offering a rigorous, interdisciplinary, and highly relevant proposal for the humanization of justice and democratic coexistence.
